My Sob Story

Let's start with the sob story and get it over with and out of the way so that the future can be focused on!

I have been overweight my entire life. Seriously...my entire life. My mom always tells me that she had to change my eating habits because I was overweight before I was even a year old. It took struggling with my weight, the loss of a baby half way through my pregnancy, the removal of my thyroid nodes, one very good Endocrinologist, and my mom recommending I look into the Metabolism Miracle by Diane Kress, to find out what was wrong with me.

Like a lot of people these days, I had thyroid issues, insulin resistance, PCOS, and the list goes on. I can't eat like a normal person should be able to eat. For those of you going through the same thing thinking it's something you're doing wrong so you keep giving up...Please Don't! Don't give up!!!

If you eat small portions, get full fast, eat the same things your "Size 2" friends do, but you just keep gaining and gaining... don't stress. You have a different metabolism, and all you need to do is adjust what you put in your body! So if something does not work for you, try something different.

I tried the calorie counting, but I would still gain. I tried allowing myself small, minuscule portions of treats that I wanted to try but only once a week. Still, I would gain.  I went down from 1800 calories to 1500 to 1200...and still I would gain. I would get frustrated easily and give up. I figured what's the point!

Eventually I made it to 325 lbs. My highest weight and my lowest point! You would think that the loss of a baby and the 12 years of trying to have one would have motivated me. Nope. It only made me more depressed and more willing to give in when something I tried failed. It actually took seeing my highest weight, realizing that I was going to be 35 and still wanting to be a mom, to wake me up. Then my mom recommended a book that she found while looking for information on the South Beach Diet and she gave me a call. She said that it sounded like this diet was meant for people like me. After checking out the website, I decided to buy the book and give this a try.

Ok! Now that I'm done telling my sob story.  Let's move forward from here. I'm starting this blog to document and share my journey to true health. I would love it if you came along for the ride. Let's motivate one another, and like I said.. DON'T GIVE UP! There is a way. You just have to find the right path for you. If that path comes to a dead end for you, go back and try another one. Oh.. and SEE you DOCTOR. Find a good Endocrinologist and get every test possible for your thyroid! And have them check your blood sugar! Good Luck!

Quick note: Please let me be clear that I am not being paid by any diet moguls, authors or registered dietitians. If at any time in the future I do review something that is sponsored, I will make sure to be upfront and honest about it. I am simply going to tell you what has and is working for me. If it stops working, and I have to switch it up, I will share that as well. For now, I am working the Metabolism Miracle and so far it has been a miracle.
